Workers montre un moment de détente de deux ouvriers du bâtiment qui se reposent de leur travail difficile de construction d'un immeuble en pleine canicule. La vidéo débute par une discussion amicale avec une proximité corporelle intrigante, d'un érotisme subtil. Les deux ouvriers semblent prendre un certain plaisir à s'exhiber en mettant en avant leur musculature cultivée au travail en la comparant sans doute dans un jeux viril presque touchant. Cette discussion se poursuit par un ensemble de plans alternés et recadrés sur les visages des ouvriers. Cette succession de plans recompose un dialogue entre eux qui laisse une liberté d'interprétation de leurs paroles au spectateur ; la caméra les filmant d'une distance suffisamment éloignée pour ne pas permettre une compréhension de leur paroles. Ce moment dialogué agit comme une sorte d'envoûtement par sa répétition et prépare le spectateur à la scène finale qui est le rappel au travail par le chef des travaux. Les deux ouvriers se lèvent alors dans un plan qui reprend le cadrage des premières images de la vidéo et qui agit comme une sorte de réveil pour le spectateur qui s'était comme laissé bercé par les plans dialogués. Les deux ouvriers sortent petit à petit du champ, retournant à leurs travaux en saisissant leurs outillages lourds avec une certaine nonchalance, sans l'envie et la complicité qui les unissaient pendant leur moment de pause.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

This video shows two workers in a moment of relaxation, on the building site of a new construction under the scorching heat of the French summer in Grenoble. In the first part of the video, a confrontation of the two muscular bodies spread an exhibitionism feeling from the two workers who seems to compare their muscles in a typical manly mood. They are starting a dialogue, which has been rebuilt, reframing the images, and focusing my attention on the two workers to increase the exchange of these two people. A certain eroticism of the scene makes the viewer imagine a story between both men in this moment of calm and intense conversation. The distance of the camera makes the dialogue impossible to listen to and gives the viewer the great liberty to build a new relation. This dialogue part works as a repetitive and a hypnotic sequence which increases the power of the last part of the video when the two workers are called by the building site chief and the large plan on the site is back. This camera change creates a feeling of awakening when they return to work like children who don’t want to work. Then, they go out of the plan, taking their tools with no enthusiasm to work again. There seems to be a paradox in the choice of the video title workers because it shows workers when they are not working, in a moment when they are out of their attributed function.
