AN EXTRACT OF THE VIDEO
2005
The end of the day consists in
three separate videos, linked by their relation to time, set up in the
sequence shots. The first one is a panoramic shot made from my Parisian
workshop. This new view from a window shows an urban
landscape on the borders of the Seine and the branches of the neighboring
trees, during a winter sunset. This instant corresponds to the moment when
people working in Paris go back home to their suburbs, which causes an
augmentation of the traffic, giving rhythm to the day. This panoramic
is constantly moving. That is to say, the symmetrical image it is composed
with, is regularly moves back and forth, from one picture window to another,
playing with the structure of the windows. The camera movements create
landscapes which expand when the missing parts of the symmetrical images
appear; from its middle or from the outside. This process is a simple
digital special effect I use in my panoramic navigation. The second video
is a long sequence shot of the same view; only it uses the structure of
the picture window as a fix frame, which composes a kind of scenery illusion. The
windowpane is set perpendicularly and reflects a part of the sky, creating
a fictive aquatic zone in the image, like a pool with a designed architecture.
The soft but contrasted light clearly cuts up the elements of the image,
which is composed in a more classical and balanced manner. Despite it
appears calm, the image is subtly paced by the headlights of cars coming
from the back f a street, like ghostly apparitions disturbing the atmosphere
of serenity coming from the landscape. The third sequence is shorter. It
shows a number of branches overcrowded high in the skies, by a cloud of
birds which scale seems troubled by the perspective crush of the image.
This sequence brings out a poetic and disturbing atmosphere, until the
birds disappear completely in the soft tinted sky. The end of the day
seems then to be definitive.
