The art teacher is a video who deals with the transmission of the artistic notion of performance. It uses short sequences whith schoolboys shot in 2003 during a workshop by Gilles Balmet when he was an art teacher in a french school.Every schoolboys was asked to produced a performance in front of the camera and all the other students after theorical explainations and references like Joseph Beuys. The actions was shot with a lot of spontaneity and the result shows different levels of appreciation of the notion of performance with creations which can be caracterized more like filmed theater, short commical sketches or choreographical moments. The image quality has been modified during the second shoot of the sequences in 2007 through the use of a tracing paper sheet applied on a tv screen to protect the sudents identity and to increase the ambiguous feelings produced by the blurred human elements and the vagueness of what is done during the sequences.
