Birds is a sequence shot in Nice in November 2004. It shows a steady shot of a cloud of birds trying to perch on the branches of an old tree even though they are much too numerous. The frenzied activity resulting from this movement is central in this work and constitutes a fluid material, constantly redefined. The multitude of birds is very dense and merges easily with the leaves remaining on the tree. The image’s contrast has been accentuated in order to amplify the feeling of confusion coming with the deep blacks in the birds and leaves. The tree, which could eventually disappear behind the crawling creatures and leaves becomes even more disturbing. The magic of the permanently moving image reveals itself as fascinating and full of surprises.
