Smoke proposes a moment of contemplation and mystery around a few elements. Here, the smoke is driven by the wind, facing the landscape of
mountains covered with their first snows. On the right hand side of the image, the hieratic metallic structures of a building under construction are opposed to the softer and more pleasant aspects of some of the other parts in the image. They work as a kind of frame for the image and transform the whole into a minimalist set. What is going to happen in this basic moment of cinematographic tension? There is nothing in particular in the video, and this is where it becomes interesting. It is just basically contemplative and proposes an almost scientific observation of a natural phenomenon tinged with something poetic, thanks to a pure setting: only a little smoke in the middle of the mountains. Anyone can give a free interpretation. It may be a symbol for finding liberty in the heart of the city, or a research on the mysterious
appearance of the smoke which origin remains unknown. The assembling of
both contrasted poetry and geometrical constructions is paced by white
dissolves which cut the video in several sequences, like incessant moments of expectation in front of this banal window view.
